Introduction
This website is for parents of children diagnosed with cancer. Cancer treatment is a difficult journey. If we know about childhood cancer, understand what we must do during cancer treatment, and act accordingly, the treatment outcome will be better.
This website describes childhood cancer in general and some of the more common childhood cancers. Apart from that, the side effects of taking cancer drugs and how to avoid them and overcome them, if any, are explained in a way that common parents can understand. Discuss how you and other family members may feel when your child is unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer and how to cope.
Cancer in children is a very rare disease. One in 500 children under the age of 15 in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. Cancer in children is different from cancer in adults. The main difference is that childhood cancer is easier to treat than adult cancer. In the Western world, treatment outcomes have greatly improved over the past 20 years. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is the most common type of cancer in children. According to the latest estimates, 90 percent of children with ALL can be treated and cured. That means 9 out of 10 children with ALL can be cured completely.
This progress has been achieved due to modern treatment methods, proper administration of medication during treatment, and careful management of side effects.
